SUMMARY:THE LEONARD FOUNDATION Scholarship
DESCRIPTION:Deadline: May 31\, 2024 \n1. Colonel Reuben Wells Leonard wanted this financial assistance to go to individuals who\, without it\, would not be able to obtain a degree. For that reason\, a true financial need must be demonstrated. Those still living with their families and whose gross total annual income\, including “in kind” benefits* exceeds $60\,000.00 are not likely to be accepted. Those applicants who have permanently resided outside of the family home for an extended period will be required to supply detailed financial information. It is recognized that some of this information is somewhat personal; however\, to fulfill the requirements of the donor\, it is required. If you do not wish to divulge this information\, the General Committee will not be able to make a reasoned decision. \n2. The Leonard Foundation scholarships are awarded to students enrolled or enrolling in an accredited undergraduate degree program in a College or University in Canada. The institutions must be open to all without restriction except for an academic standard. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants. \n3.  Students must be enrolled in their first undergraduate program as a full-time student.  A student is considered to be full-time if when enrolled for a program’s full year credit.  Only students pursuing a post graduate degree in Education or Divinity are eligible for continuing support. \n4. All applicants will be considered\, but when necessary\, preference may be given to children of ordained clergy\, licensed elementary or secondary school teachers\, Canadian military personnel\, graduates of a Canadian Military College\, members of the Engineering Institute of Canada and members of the Mining and Metallurgical Institute of Canada. Preference is also given to those who have previously received an award from The Leonard Foundation. \n5. Successful applicants are expected to obtain employment during free time to help defray the costs of their education. In addition\, they must participate regularly in athletic\, fitness or military activities. SUMMARY:Carol Thompson Memorial Fund Scholarship and the Doreen Kronick Scholarship
DESCRIPTION:The deadline for receipt of applications is May 15th each year. \nTwo scholarships offered by the Learning Disabilities Association of Canada (LDAC) are the Doreen Kronick Scholarship and the Carol Thompson Memorial Fund Scholarship. Both are available to post-secondary students with learning disabilities who are enrolled in full-time or part-time study programs. The amount of these awards is $1\,000. \nApplicants to the Carol Thompson Memorial Fund Scholarship must submit with their application: a letter of acceptance from the university or college they will be attending; three letters of reference from non-relatives\, relevant to the scholarship application; and a letter containing the following information: a description of the applicant’s learning disability\, an outline of those coping skills and strategies which have been developed to compensate for the learning disability\, the individual’s involvement in the community as a volunteer and the applicant’s future goals. \nThe Doreen Kronick Scholarship (DKS) may be awarded to a person who is pursuing a program of graduate study in a university that will assist learning disabled students. Unlike the Carol Thomson Memorial Scholarship\, the DKS applicants need not have a learning disability. Applications are reviewed according to the following criteria: the student’s future educational program leading towards assisting persons with learning disabilities; the submission of a satisfactory academic record; the student’s contribution to his or her community and to campus life. \nTo apply for both of these awards\, you must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.
